Hey y'all,
It's been awhile since we've done a full-on Apopaganda listing, so we're breaking 'em down into medium-specific updates. Should make it a little less burdonesome to sort through all the goodies. Before we get to the jam, we want to thank everyone who has come out to the January events. We know it can be tough to peel yourself away from the cave when it's so utterly gloomtastic out, so we're really appreciative that all the shows and events have been so successful.
In February, we hope to see the return of Apop movie nights, with bigger and better themes and nonsense. Our pally Mark Willey is "curating" it so to speak, so look out for that Facebook page. He'll be adding you soon no doubt.
In March, we are ever so happy to announce the return of Providence rodent noise-rock WHITE MICE.
(IMAGINE THIS IN OUR BASEMENT, YOUR BEING CROWDED BY PEOPLE W/ JUST WHITE MICE'S RED EYES STROBE TO ORIENT YOU)
This will be 3rd time we've seen them come through San Louie, and the 2nd to play at the shop. This time 'round they're making it real special like by bringing a gang of loud assholes with them!:
Then there's these creeps:
Tinsel Teeth is also from Providence. Because that city just can't stop.
We've only seen videos, some nuts like this, and others where the front-woman is doing a kind of tougher Karen O. We're hoping things stay in the nuts direction.
There will be only one local opener, and that'll be Shaved Women, who've become an Apop houseband, of sorts.
Also, in April, Surroundings will be playing, and of course, that's Apop birthday month, so expect some fun shit to be announced later.

| A//solution | Butterfly | Teacore | 7" Record | From Orange County (Long Beach). Roughly 1989!? A//SOLUTION was one of the first American crust bands along with Apocalypse, Glycine Max, Confrontation and NYC's Nausea. They had three singers with a peace punk vibe in their walloping chugga chugga wail sound. A grindier Rock and Roll Conformity? A crustier Concrete Sox? In the early nineties one of the singers Steve Bowden (Nedwob) committed suicide.-no beast so fierce blog |
| Ale Mania | LustfulFistful / Vomitpig | Volar | 7" Record | San Diego based Ale Mania features members from Beaters and the now defunct The Sess, lead by Andrew Montoya (who drums for both) recording most of the bass/vocal/synth work. |

| Bal Pare | s/t | Minimal Wave | 7" Record | Minimal Wave presents a 4 song 7" EP by legendary German band Bal Paré. The band was formed in 1980 by Kirsten Klemm, Manfred Asmus and Matthias Schuster. Schuster, the brainchild behind the band, is also known for these projects: Geisterfahrer, Im Namen Des Volkes, Jeanette Und Das Land Z, and Das Institut. The four songs were recorded between 1981-1984 and have never been released before. The songs range from really original, danceable dark synth with an early industrial feel to warmer synth pop, the last song featuring Kirsten on vocals. On colored vinyl with a hand silk screened heavy card stock jacket, a beautiful release, limited to 600 numbered copies |
| Bauhaus - The Singles (1981-1983) | Bauhaus - The Singles (1981-1983) | Beggers Banquet | LP Record | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. Some wear on corners of sleeve. |
| Beach House | Teen Dream [LP + DVD] | Sub Pop | LP Record | Recorded in a converted church in upstate New York, Teen Dream is the third album (& Sub Pop debut) from the Baltimore-based duo. Gives voice to a full universe of unbridled imagination, and the manifestation of Teen Dream has been a welcomed and all-consuming obsession for Beach House the past 9-12 months. Packaged with companion DVD feat. a video for each song on the album, each by a different director |
| Beaters | White Hate | Zoo Music | 7" Record | The second 7-inch from San Diego’s BEATERS, who’ve sprung from the ashes of San Diego punk/soul/garage legends THE SESS. Led by JEREMY ROJAS, their brand of “pre-apocalyptic” mutant-punk fuses early-’80s punk with a gamut of paranoia and weirdness, and live the band stands out as a true propulsive force. Limited to 500 copies. RECOMMENDED! |
| Beck | Mixed Bizness | Interscope Records | Vinyl | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Beck | Sexx Laws | Geffen Records | 12" Record | Clear vinyl. 4 track ep. Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Belong | October Language | Geographic North | LP Record | Somewhere in-between the physical lushness of Christian Fennesz's static-haze & the isolated melancholy of William Basinski, this is a series of compositions that move in a glacial drift, decaying slightly w/ each desperate layer of processed guitar. Distortion & feedback are found weaving into one another creating blankets of shifting white noise, atop gaspingly beautiful melodies nearly lost in the distance. These starbursts of sound are confronted by moments of hauntingly barren tones that gnaw at you even after the song expires. 180 gram black vinyl, limited to 500. ESSENTIAL |
| BIG BLACK | SONGS ABOUT FUCKING | Touch & Go Reco | Vinyl | Vinyl version of this classic album of songs about doin' it |
| Bill Haley and The Comets | 20 Golden Greats | Astan | LP Record | Sleeve and vinyl are clean. Mo pops or scratches. |
| Birth Control | Going To Target | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | Philadelphia, PA's Birth Control feature members of Pissed Jeans and don't stray too far from the Jeans' formula, playing dirty, noisy punk with demented vocals. Another hit! |
| Black Devil Disco Club | The Strange New World of Bernard Fevre | LO. RECORDINGS (CAR) | LP Record | New mixes of the original tracks, along w/ previously unheard compositions. Musically, there are echoes of now-familiar styles, from the romanticism of Air to the electro pulse of Busta Rhymes, the lush tones of Drexciya, the wayward warp of Aphex Twin, & the delicacy of Kraftwerk |
| Black Dice / Erase Errata | Split | Troubleman Unlimited | 7" Record | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |

| Boris | Boris at Last - Feedbacker | Conspiracy Records | LP Record | A single 43-minute composition/symphony from Japan's drone druids that goes from ethereal to crushingly heavy & hits everything between. Featured on the soundtrack for the new Jim Jarmusch film The Limits of Control |
| Born Bad | Moron Music | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | These Winnipeg HC rippers offer up six more tracks of ugly hardcore punk taking cues from early 80's USHC and generally all things negative. Absolutely vicious, mean, and any other adjectives that tip yer trigger. This rips the piss out of all their previous efforts. |
| Brian Eno & VArious Artists Robert Fripp | First Edition (EG Label) | Editions EG | LP Record | LP is used but in good shape. Vinyl has some surface noise, but nothing too intrusive; no skips. Small mark paint mark OFC, light ringwear and cut in bottom right corner. |

| Cave In | Antenna | Hydrahead Records | LP Record | Double LP gatefold. Black vinyl is in lovely like new condition. |
| Chandeliers | Thrush | Obey Your Brain | LP Record | 5-piece act from Chicago's blossoming young avant-rock scene, they are a phenomenon in unclassifiable modern music. They incorporate mainly electronic instruments but no laptops, & performed as a group of musicians, not a novelty act. Having adopted the collective spirit of kraut-rock bands like Can & Faust, the group functions as a unified whole with no dominant members. This approach gives them a more intuitive & unpredictable approach to composing. What does it sound like? Kraftwerk is a clear reference, but w/ influences ranging from Eastern melodies to the sonically dirty rhythmic propulsion of Konono No.1, & the crunked-out, psychedelic hip-hop of J-Dilla, as well as influences of Afrobeat, Italo disco, post-punk, Giorgio Moroder, etc - this group always keeps listeners on their toes |
| Christdriver | Everything Burns | LP Record | bleak dissonance, pulsing slow to midpaced tempos, plenty of samples, hypnotic repetition, and long songs that average around seven minutes each.some minor marks on hte vinyl, but nothing that affects the sound. | |
| Chrome | 3rd from the Sun | Cleopatra | LP Record | Special limited edition vinyl reissue of the 1982 album by the Bay Area masters of alternative industrial noise rock |
| Chronic Seizure | Ancient Wound | Fashionable Idiots | LP Record | This here is Chronic Seizure's debut long play. Some of my best buds and ultimately the band the made me want to start a record label in the first place. Did you dig the two EPs? Well here are some more ass ripping full throttle hc/punk tracks in the same vein...this time around there is just more of them and the production is off the wall! Split release with No Way Records |
| Cindytalk | Silver Shoals of Light | Bluesanct Music | Vinyl | Limited to 500 one-sided 10" w/screen-printed b-side. 3rd release in Blue Sanct's "Art Singles" series. Drum machine ticks along w/ gorgeous bass that pulses up against Gordon Sharp's vocals, leading to a climax of bliss & dissonance. Sharp was at one time perhaps best known for lending his angelic voice to several tracks on This Mortal Coil's classic masterpiece "It'll End In Tears." The sound straddles several genres at once - ambient, abstract, industrial, cinematic, glitch, post-punk. These will not be around for long, so act quickly! |
| Civic Progress | Disposable EP | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | This record is so fuckin intense and great that you'll play it over and over again saying "Alright, one more time." These st. louis ragers spit out 9 songs of relentless-perfectly executed HC punk in the 80's tradition but with so much current-state frustation and anger. If you're a fan of CIA, POISON IDEA, CAUSE FOR ALARM and KRAKDOWN and tight-ballistic HC like those bands, you need to pick this up. |
| Cluster | Cluster 71 | 4 Men With Beards | LP Record | 180gm audiophile vinyl format |
| Cluster | Grosses Wasser | Bureau b | LP Record | LP version. Originally released in 1979, this is CLUSTER's last great album. Combining the ambient space rock of early albums on some songs w/ a more updated, beat-driven, dare I say space-disco? sound on others, it at times sounds like the best of both worlds. They were probably the most influential & ground-breaking group to come out of Germany in the '70s (no small feat) & every one of their records is pure trailblazing musical history |
| Cluster | Zuckerzeit | LILITH | LP Record | Originally released in '74, this marked a turning point for these seminal German space rockers. Recorded shortly after their move away from the metropolis of Berlin, it sees some of the abrasiveness of their earlier material slightly diffusing. W/ the addition of proto drum machines & the producing talents of Michael Rother, their sound here has more pop sensibility |
| Cluster & Eno | Cluster & Eno | 4 Men With Beards | Vinyl | Vinyl repress of this classic album |
| Cock E.S.P. | If She Says That You Can Have It Tell Her No | Sunship | LP Record | Only 200 issued. Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Cococoma | Things Are Not Alright | Goner Records | LP Record | 2nd album from Chicago garage/psych/pop/punk trio |
| Cold Cave | Love Comes Close | Matador Records | LP Record | |
| Condominium | Barricade | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | This is the third 7” from St. Paul, MN-based band Condominium. With this record, they are clearly figuring out what musical boundaries they can poke and prod while remaining firmly rooted in the world of hardcore. On the A-side, “Barricade” wallows in the kind of awkward tension that results from never wanting to leave your house. It alternates between crushing two step hardcore and wild, jangly noise rock played in non-standard tuning. The B-side is a slower instrumental song. A sparse, laid back jam that brings to mind Black Flag and The Jesus Lizard in its winding, ugly guitar riffs, and lurching rhythms. Comes in a hand-stamped picture sleeve. -M.Castore |
| Conflict | Standard Issue 82-87 | Mortarhate Records | LP Record | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Consumer Electronics | Crowd Pleaser | Hand To Mouth | LP Record | Latest solo outing from Philip Best! "Crowd Pleaser is a short, bracing blast, four tracks on one side, a single instrumental on the other. The noise itself is generally a series of somber mid-range tones feeding back on themselves, quite an abstract backing for Best's excoriating lyrical delivery." Black Acrylic |
| Crocodiles / Pens / Dum Dum Girls / Graffiti | 4 Way Split | Zoo Music | 7" Record | Art Fag, the tiny label that recently brought us Ye Olde Maid's God Blesses Us, Mother Dresses Us is about to deliver a very solid 4-way split 7" between the recently Sub Popped Dum Dum Girls, BTW Crocodiles, PENS, and Graffiti Island. That's two American Bands (Dum Dums, Crocs) and two British (the other two), if you're counting. We're offering up a listen to Side A: Crocodiles turn in slinky, synth-lined nighttime noise-rock via "Hollow Hollow Eyes" (anyone else hear some "California Dreamin" floating through some of the harmonies?) and London trio Graffiti Island offer a dose of dark, lo-fi, half-speed surf punk via "Moon Tan" (they did a GG Allin split with PENS that'll be out on the band's own Italian Beach Babes soon). There's going to be a tour in conjunction with the release, which will feature Graffiti Island and PENS' first trek(s) into the States. Take a look at those dates while you take a listen (and inspect the cover art a bit more closely).--stereogum |
| Dan Wamhoff | Chill Out: The Prelude | self | Zine | 4 canvas prints, back and front, of spartan yet fantastical drawings. Hand screened sewn cover. |
| Daughters | s/t | Citt of Hell | 7" Record | single sided, 2002. Vinyl and Sleeve are clean. |
| Dead Kennedys | Bedtime for Democracy | Alternative Tentacle | LP Record | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Deathcage | Chaos Nightrider | Schizophrenic | 7" Record | black vinyl version. Follow up ep from aussie Japacore bastards'. Chaos Night Rider 7" is 5 songs of burly japanese influenced hardcore, shredding solos and throat splitting vocals. Think DEATHSIDE thrashing kangaroos in the blazing Aussie outback. More deadly than Martin Byrant |
| Debris | Static Disposal | Anopheles | LP Record | Anopheles Records is proud to announce a high quality, deluxe, tip-on style, heavy jacket sleeve LP edition of this 1976 acid-punk classic from Oklahoma for 2008, with an additional two sided insert unique to this edition, pressed on black vinyl for the first time since the original pressing in 1976. This is the outer limits, psych-noise proto-punk extravaganza that went on to inspire the likes of the Screamers and Nurse With Wound. This edition features the complete April, 1976 self-released LP, taken from the original master tapes, with original artwork, and a previously unreleased (and amazing!) November, 1975 home demo recording exclusive to the LP edition. The previous clear vinyl edition of Debris' on LP from 2002 sold out years ago, so we are glad to have it available again, after many requests from DEBRIS' fans around the world. We must keep it alive!" |
| Deep Jew | War | Troniks | 7" Record | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Deerhunter | Nothing Ever Happened 7" | Kranky | 7" Record | The first salvo in a barrage of Deerhunter related noise this fall is this two song single that precedes the release of the Microcastle full length. Side A is the unabashed rocker from the album, while the flip side is the demo version of another album track. This is a limited edition one-time pressing release |

| Eno / Moebius / Roedelius | After The Heat (180 Gram Vinyl) | 4 Men With Beards | LP Record | Originally released in 1978, BRIAN ENO's 2nd album collaboration w/ MOEBIUS & ROEDELIUS of CLUSTER is full of blissed-out instrumentals, made up of looped synthesizer patterns & sustained guitar. Reminiscent of the ambient style from Eno's collaborations w/ Robert Fripp. A classic piece of German kosmische musik, available for the 1st time in yrs! |
| eod | Untitled | Kvist | LP Record | From Trondheim, Norway, EOD makes excellent acidy-electro music. We know nothing more about this mysterious artist. |
| Evolve | Breaking Down The Barrier | Realicide Youth | LP Record | The fifth collection of Evolve, "Breaking Down The Barriers" is Cincinnati's magick union of conscious hiphop, experimental punk, and psychedelic electronica. Fully inspired by both spiritual and socio-political aspects of the cut-up process, this album is bathed in warm and propagandic tape collage, over thick electronic drums crafted from various hardware, featuring several collaborative beats by Mavis Concave (Praey, Realicide, Thumper). Lyrical performances by the project's founder Colin Murray, as well as Jim Swill (Realicide) and Freak-One (Chemical Committee), run consistent in every way to their electronically collaged platform. Key topics include resisting the slavery of corporate capitalism, both physically literal and that of the mind and soul, dietary consciousness and an emphasis of life as sacred, both individually in animals and our Earth as one collective being, countering social stereotypes of gender, class systems, and the means of sustaining one's self with or without consumerist vices... Art direction by Robert Inhuman includes video stills and imagery from events by Bunk News, the crew that revived an excitement for new DIY arts in Cincinnati throughout 2009 while this music was being created. Mastered by Mavis Concave. "Breaking Down The Barriers" is in many ways the Realicide label's follow-up to "Resisting The Viral Self", the Realicide album released earlier the same year. Although the aesthetics of Evolve differ greatly from the label's tendencies towards abrasive hardcore, the Evolve project was formed at the same time as Realicide in 2002, and has progressed parallel over the years with similar social aims. "Breaking Down The Barriers" is the first Evolve album published on vinyl LP, and its CD version contains dozens of additional songs and cut-up selections. Both formats are accompanied by an extensive zine featuring all lyrics and dialogue clips transcribed, as well as supplementary essays and artwork by various collaborators. This record is highly recommended to anyone who appreciates the urgent themes found in most other Realicide Youth Records and is interested in experiencing comparable ideas through a different array of musical styles. Beyond aesthetic boundaries; beyond the numbing masks and psychick chains any of us may wear; moving forward together in favor of an energy healing One Earth and all its humble cells which we all ultimately are; surely this Earth is rather the One to heal us all. 23 October 2009, for Realicide Youth Records. (1st Edition: 500 LP & 1,000 CD) |

| Excepter | Debt Dept. | Paw Tracks | Vinyl | Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Factums | Flowers | Sacred Bones | LP Record | Latest full-length from Seattle's bleak & ominous FACTUMS. 22 tracks recorded between 2006 & 2007 (but only now seeing a proper release) fluctuating from sound collage to soundtrack-esque, as well as more structured songwriting. Flashes of abrasive electropunk garner comparisons to Chrome, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, & much of the early Wax Trax catalog. |

| Fucked Up | Year Of The Rat | What's Your Rupture | Vinyl | Recorded at the culmination of 2008 & adheres to the principles of the Chinese sign. Side A memorializes this transformative year of political & cultural uncertainty with a cascade of guitars layering into a dense & propulsive charge reminiscent of the most memorable Hawkwind songs. The B-side "First Born" is not just a mediation on becoming a father - it's an uncompromising push towards a new sincerity. |
| Giant Haystacks / Armedalite Rifles | Split | FDH | 7" Record | Giant Haystacks: Think Three Way Tie (for Last)-era Minutemen, sprinkled with Nomeansno. The initial knife-point blurts of their early work has been redirected to mid-paced, heart-felt, believable punk funk. That said; it didn’t initially grab me as hard as the earlier material, but I have a feeling this’ll grow on me. Armedalite Rifles: Reminds me of political and introspective, rough-hewn punk (pop and otherwise) of the ‘90s (Strawman, bits of Swiz, traces of Jawbreaker, the two songs of Fifteen that I can listen to until the self-righteousness chokes me). I rarely say this because I’m no sucker for fidelity, but their songs sound too hot, and I think these guys would totally benefit from clearer recording so their intricacies aren’t lost. –Todd Taylor (FDH) |
| Godflesh | Godflesh (vinyl) | Kreation | LP Record | Originally recorded in 1988. Beautiful, depressing & genius - the group at it's earliest & finest. Extremely dark & industrial, but in the best way possible. Contains the full EP version plus the bonus songs featured on the re-issue of the CD |

| Growing | All the Way | The Social Registry | LP Record | Through 6 tracks they complete the conceptual arc initiated on their 2006 album, Color Wheel. Sounds like some sort of frozen urban chaos taking place at a superclub on another planet |
| H-100 | Texas Death Match | Havoc | 7" Record | 1st pressing red clear vinyl. Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Heavy Winged | Alive In My Mouth | Three Lobed Recordings | LP Record | Comes with CD! Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |
| Henry Flynt | Raga Electric | Locust | Vinyl | This begins w/ a bonkers treatment of the jarhead anthem "The Marine's Hymn" sung in a thick-tongued, fully untutored Hindustani vocalese. The title cut is a twisted, howling fake Hindustani rag w/ staccato untuned guitar & bleating screams. Side-closer "Free Alto" is a monstrous exploration of the ins & outs of the tenor saxophone |
| Henry Flynt; Nova Billy | Nova Billy | Locust | LP Record | This stands as one of the fullest, most beauteous document of Flynt's tenure w/ a full working rock band to date. This covers a damned fine & important moment in his musical career. If the Insurrections laid the foundation for his anti war primitive garage rock sound, the emergence, nearly a decade later is the realization of his own vision of obtuse personal politics ( "I was a creep"), provocative leftwing posturing (check their version of the world communist anthem "the international!") & a gleefully recombinant spin on southern musi |
| Herds | s/t | Fashionable Idiots | LP Record | Herds are thick, thundering, and mired in the strength of earth's natural forces. From the greedy depths of Lake Superior, to the trek of the caribou, to the re-birthing flames of a fire gone wild, Herds relate—both sonic-ly and lyrically—the feelings of deep, hostile waters, the iron-willed journey of a lung-spent animal, and the hematite wonder of a singed new world. The clarity of vision and the singular purpose of this release leaves the listener awake at night, watching treelimbs for some kind of sign. Members of Charles Bronson, Get Rad, Threatener, and more -Roderick McClain Artwork by Feeding. Screened by Broken Press. Digital download of the LP and both 7"s included |
| Hjertestop | Aarh Fuck | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | All the way from Copenhagen, Denmark, Hjertestop's classic 2005 debut gets it first domestic pressing just in time for their US tour. Originally released on Kick N Punk and then Adult Crash, this EP features six great tracks of raw hc/punk that is catchy as hell in the early 80's SoCal mold but ran through the K-town filter for good measure. |

This is an official reissue, fully licenced by Ernie Bringas (H&W founder) and Anopheles Records. It has exact reproduction of the original cover, label, 4-pages insert and poster as well as extra triptych insert with bio and photos signed by Ernie Bringas. Yet, 2 extra tracks are included. It is limited to 450 black and 100 coloured copies. 180gr as usual Graded as R3-R4, that's what ACID ARCHIVES book says about "Our times" LP : Despite being recorded at Gold Star in LA and featuring heavy session names such as Hal Blaine and Al Casey, this irresistable femme-vox melodic folkrock/psych delight has remained mysteriously unknown for 30 years. You'll be hard pressed to find faults with its mix of various late 1960s California styles, ranging from lyte Neighb'rhood Child'n top 40 psych over Carolyn Hester Coalition/Yankee Dollar folk moves into all-out westcoast acidrock a la Ill Wind. The songwriting and arrangements are excellent throughout and come courtesy mainly of the remarkably talented JoAnn Avery, although the entire group contributes most skillfully. The blend of the female vocalists works well in a manner similar to Mamas & the Papas, and indeed the album as a whole plays like something out of one of John Philips' more inspired daydreams. The release year of 1975 seems almost impossible, although traces of a more sombre 1970s mood can be found in the "Soldier Blue"-inspired Indian (and Vietnam) massacre lament of "See The Children Die", and the Nashville-flavored "Rhythm of the wind". I also have to throw in a word for the super-catchy "King Of The Mountain" which is the musical equivalent of a giant smiley face and will send you right back to 1974 and upbeat children TV shows of the era. In general the psychiest stuff such as the twofisted punch of "Your Freedom's In Question" and "I Am Cain" is the best, but the lightest and tradiest moves are agreeable too. "The beat of the drum" is perhaps the ultimate marriage of the band's all strengths into one superb piece of music, including hard raga leads straight out of 1968. Any psych fan not enjoying this album needs to come up with a creative explanation why. [PL] Taken from ACID ARCHIVES book COLOURED VINYL (orange or green) |

| Jex Thoth | s/t | I Hate | LP Record | "Taking their influences from sources obvious (early Danzig, Ozzy) and not so obvious (avant garde chanteuse Catherine Ribeiro, over-the-rainbow psych-folk savant Bobb Trimble), the band, led by the beautiful and commanding goddess Jex, follow their muse wherever it leads them. The band is not afraid to take cues from progressive rock and folk, and the band's debut album (which follows an EP released under the name Totem) marks a huge step forward for the trans-national group. From the vociferous opener "Nothing Left To Die," a statement of intent that begins with Jex singing "You think you know me/ but you won't believe your eyes," to an ambitious cover of Bobb Trimble's psychedelic masterwork "When The Raven Calls," Jex Thoth is out to prove they are peerless when it comes to intrepid, bone-shaking rock and roll. Reverent while maintaining a defiantly original sound, Jex Thoth embraces all that is good about the past and shuttles it defiantly into the future." -- I Hate Records |
| Jex Thoth | Totem | I Hate | 12" Record | "something new to the world of Doomed Metal! To add to their greatness they use a formula that stays true to the roots of Heavy Rock music, they just do things their very own way and with their very own vibe, adding Hammond organ to the down tuned guitars and punishing drums while throwing in psychedelic and spaced out elements effortlessly in a completely non-contrived fashion. All is topped of, or rather, built arround the truly otherworldly vocals of Jex Thoth, a singer with absolute control of her voice and with a tinge of danger in her tone. There's a sense of American nativity and serenity in TOTEM's music, an earthiness and brooding dark beauty we dare say we never have encountered in this musical form before" |

| Landed | Times I Despise | Load Records | LP Record | Ripped speaker shred from this long running Providence unit. The sound is of a distinctly heavy mid 90Õs slant & feat the mush mouthed verbal gymnastics of DAN ST. JACQUES (OLNEYVILLE SOUND SYSTEM). After digesting a few songs of this rich dust, the listener can do no other than lie down in the wild wierd Laredo bunker to revel in the refreshingly brisk blast of hedonistic analogue pleasure dancing through the airwaves in the sky above...Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Led Er Est |
| Les Georges Leningrad | Sangue Puro | Dare to Care | LP Record | MontrealÕs most notorious post-punks are much beloved for their over the top stage shows & unique take on various genres including no wave, punk & electro sounds. Their live performance will make you declare this is the best band in the world! Masked, theatrical, over the top & mesmerizing, they combine pseudo-angular guitar post-punk w/ electronic chaos & mischievous noise & that combination can cast a spell when experienced firsthand. But what is really entrancing is their joy, nuttiness & energy. Just being in the same room when theyÕre in action feels like a privilege. |

| Liquorball | Evolutionary Squalor | Rocketship | LP Record | EVOLUTIONARY SQUALOR comprises of two ever-unfolding, ever-building, ever-regrouping pieces that greedily & intuitively cram into their performances the best bits of every Krautrock powerdrive, every surf instrumental, every Cleveland 1975 pre-Punk roar, every free jazz (Archie Shepp, Miles Davis, Art Ensemble of Chicago) lick, and then batter the thing until you can’t tell whether it’s a plaice or a haddock. So while Iggy From The Pru is still lamenting the loss of his cash cow following the death of Ron Asheton, fellow Stooge Steve MacKay has followed his heart to Ventura, California, playing a major role in re-igniting this old Liquorball project by contributing so much stellarly twatted sax that we old timer Stooges Nutters need no longer stare listlessly off into space imagining whole LPs of ‘Freak’, ‘LA Blues’ and ‘Asthma Attack’. Babies, if they so chose these Liquorball guys could do it for us! In the meantime, we can all haul ass (as the Runyoid would no doubt term it) down to the local vinyl emporium and cop this mighty EVOLUTIONARY SQUALOR LP, 40 minutes of Taliban level No Compromise. Better still, Liquorball have even upped the ante somewhat. For, whereas the old Liquorball sounded like nothing on earth, this new ensemble sounds like nothing in the Universe. If you buy one vinyl LP this year, revolutionary motherfuckers, make it this one by Liquorball. And if it sells well, maybe we can persuade Messrs. Runyan, Feast & Co to record a whole slew of these suckers; imagine these mad cunts once they’re back in the saddle! Gentlemen of the ensemble, many thanks for this hellride. Like that excellent first batch you hatched back in the day, EVOLUTIONARY SQUALOR is most serpently gonna give us all many years of listening pleasure, not to mention hefty psychic usage. Multi-tasking? U-Betcha! |

| Minotaur | God May Show You Mercy... We Will Not | I Hate | LP Record | "God May Show You Mercy... We Will Not" is an elaboration on the EP from 16 years ago, sounding like it had been recorded right after it, wtih barely a month between them. If we exclude the hysterical high-pitched black vocals, this is quite good rendition of the retro German thrash sound, in fast tempo, which never lets loose, and the guys are apparent determined to not show mercy in the music department, like the album-title suggests. Among the 11 songs some shorter, more laid-back moments can be found: the more speed metal-based "Princess of Hell" and "Soulless", but most of the time this is relentless old school thrash attack, fast and uncompromising, finished with a cover of W.A.S.P.'s early hit "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)", where the music loses the speed and the edge, trying to sound true to the heavy metal approach of the original. While the debut was a good example of badly played amateurish thrash, this new effort is on the very opposite pole, showing the guys in a much brighter light, aiming high, and well deservedly so."--too much metal for one hand |

The A-side is the Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Dirtbombs & every other Detroit garage act) alternate mix of the album track & the B-side is a swagger-laced cover of "Chip Away The Stone," made famous by some band called Aerosmith. Has been out of print for nearly a year & was previously available on a Spanish label with poor mastering & cheap packaging. These two tracks have been remastered, repackaged & repressed. 4 song EP out on Glazed Records early 2002 |
| Nightwalkers | Mirror | Robot Recordings | LP Record | Black vinyl.Heemann and Chalk's most peculiar, early aural odysseys. For their fifth project, Nightwalkers, Mirror teamed-up with Andreas Martin (Mimir member and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire) for a set of pieces that could well be their most adventurous and bizarre still yet. The result is an incredibly mysterious series of turbulent and richly spacious explorations that is curiously active, but at the same moment appears suspended in time. The subtle inclusion of rhythmic elements with sustained tonalities reveals ominous, distant landscapes and hallucinogenic excursions into further uncharted territories.Used but in great shape. Original artwork/packaging. No skips, or marks that affect play. |

| Numbers | Solid Pleasure | KRS | 7" Record | In the past they have played fast, primal punk disco beats w/ barking vocals & noisy bursts of guitar, but here they take a slightly different route - implementing more melody & longer songs. | Ovo | Croce Via | Load Records | LP Record | A darker slant than their previous full length, OvO's guitars scrape & drums pound but the organic crunch & high fidelity of this release will convince you that this is music taken further & harder. An avant masterpiece, it takes cues from the tar covered hordes wearing jean jackets & introduces a very natural middle finger of wigginess. Stefania Pendretti's vocals soar for the sky & rest like a golden piece of corn in the steaming morass of dunt. Guitar undulates like a wriggling eel, with Bruno Dorella's drums providing crunching headburn |
| Ovo | Miastenia | Load Records | LP Record | Italian 2 piece using guitar/violin/cello & drums that dump a toxic sludge w/an unmistakable butterscotch accent in line w/comtemporary doom salesmen Boris & Melvins with the addition of vocal stylings that take this album to a new place entirely |

| Puerto Rico Flowers | 4 | Fan Death | 12" Record | Puerto Rico Flowers is the solo project of John Sharkey III, formerly of the notoriously over-the-top noise-rock band Clockcleaner. But if you're expecting the same ballsy, nihilistic, aggression then you're SOL. PRF is taking on downer pop. "4" is a total bummer EP with gleaming sad synths and deeply depressive croonings. If CC was a celebration of destruction, than PRF is the next morning's remorse. Fan Death states it best: "This one sounds like a skinhead crying." |
| Pygmy Shrews | Lord Got Busted | Fan Death Records | 7" Record | You know we love the Shrews. Their show at Apop last month blew everyone away, and their recordings don't disappoint either. This 7" is the same blasting concept, with a treat: the b-side is their attempt to out-destroy the destroyers by covering Pussy Galore's "Kill Yourself". Pick this up along with their vinyl full-length "The Egyptian" on Wantage, if you haven't already. It's fuckin' recommended. |
| Pygmy Shrews | The Egyptian | Wantage | LP Record | Pounding noisey fuct HC w/ alternating male/female vox. Members of Drunkdriver, Cutter, Zs, Little Women. |

| Reading Rainbow | Restless | Zoo Music | 7" Record | Reading Rainbow, aka the Philadelphia duo of Rob Garcia and Sarah Everton, have a new 7" out now on one Zoo Music, the San Diego label run by Dum Dum Girls' Dee Dee and Brandon from Crocodiles. (They put out an excellent Woven Bones single not so long ago.) The A-Side's the revved-up "Restless," which finds Reading Rainbow sounding more like an echoing noise-pop choir than a twosome. They do a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Stephanie Says" on side B. For now, get hooked on this. |
| Refused | The Shape Of Punk To Come | Burning Heart / Epitaph | LP Record | Burning Heart & Epitaph: 82001-1. In lovely, nearly unplayed condition. |
| Retainers | Teenage Regrets | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | After being unavailable for two years, this is finally back in stock. A small repress with a rocket red sleeve. This is still one of my favorite records to have any involvement with yet. Minneapolis's best kept secret dish out four unrelenting tracks of great punk in an odd combination of garage/surf/and all out desperation. Killer single. |
| Retainers | Waste of Time | Fashionable Idiots | 7" Record | win Cities prolific punk/garage/surf hybrid return with their fifth single, hot off the heels of their great LP on P-Trash. Another in the red burner destined to damage your ears in the most infections ways possible! I have about 50-60 of the record release gig sleeve available first come first serve. |
| Ringo Deathstarr | s/t | Fan Death Records | 12" Record | "There was no future in playing music in Beaumont," Ringo Deathstarr singer Elliott Frazier said in a 2008 interview with the Austin Chronicle. Whether it was the crowds or the musicians that drove him to Austin from his East Texas hometown, he found a community much more receptive to the noisy, overdriven shoegaze squall he wanted to create. Since forming in 2005, Austin's Ringo Deathstarr has been smashing Fender Jazzmasters and blowing out PA systems across America with their blitzkreig noise-pop assault. Taking cues from the loudest British bands of the late 80s and early 90s ( My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Slowdive, and Ride for reference), Ringo put together a batch of songs with very descriptive titles: "Swirly," "Starrsha," and "Some Kind of Sad." After gaining a reputation for playing short, ear-bleeding sets, they released their first EP on CD and digital formats in the UK by Spoilt Victorian Child in 2007 to rave reviews. Supporting slots with The Dandy Warhols, A Place to Bury Strangers, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and More exposed them to audiences ready and willing for their fuzzed-out, fucked-up pop songs. |

| Sic Alps | A Long Way Around to a Shortcut | Drag City | Vinyl | 2xLP reissue is somehow a "greatest hits" of the golden not-quite-decade of Sic Alps. Their music is the bright, surging sound of ye olde rock & roll radio (and the garages that tuned in), but heard through air darkened with specks of nameless obstruction. Originally issued as a CD in 2008. It collected songs that were first issued throughout the epic years of 2006 & 2007 on two 12" EPs, three 7" singles and a cassette, plus a song from a compilation CD-R and a song released nowhere else but on the ALWATAS compilation |
| Silver Daggers | New High & Ord | Load Records | LP Record | They're a streamlined bullet to the brain from a unusually shaped pistol. W/ a new creep vibe running through the deserted subway tunnels of LA & emptying into ground zero center stages. They generate new sparks & suck you, the listener, into the tiny foam headphones. Indeed as a 6 piece band they operate as a single muscle. Future sound just in time for a culture caught in caustic feedback loops |

| Six Finger Satellite | Half Control | Load Records | LP Record | Archival 2001 recordings from Providence's finest square peg. Half Control veers sharply away from the krautrock stylings of 1998's Law Of Ruins with a lineup that is hotwired. The band is now a bastardly other brother, including LANDED's most regular rhythm section grafted onto SFS's singer Jay Ryan and drummer Rick Pelletier |

SotL have expanded their sound to include sampled strings and horns as well as their array of customized guitar sounds. Comes in a beautiful package courtesy of NYC artist Jon McCafferty. SotL now deserve placement alongside contemporary classical composers as well as the crop of ambient/drone fakirs they're usually dumped with |
| Strawberry Alarm Clock | Incense and Peppermints | Sundazed Music Inc. | Vinyl | Combines catchy melodic flights w/ an edgy progressive sensibility that manifests itself in the trippy soundscapes, sophisticated harmonies & evocative lyrics of such memorable tracks as "The World's on Fire," "Birds in My Tree," "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow," & "Paxton's Back Street Carnival." A strangely compelling mix of psychedelia, sunshine pop, garage rock, & California harmony |
| Sunburned Hand Of The Man | A | Ecstatic Peace | LP Record | 2nd album w/ producer Kieran Hebden, a.k.a. FOURTET. Sunburned is taken off the bandana smokestage of their previous collaboration - Fire Escape - & put onto a sweat-soaked 4am lysergic dance floor |
| Sword Heaven | Entrance | Load Records | LP Record | Columbus duo using sheet metal, electronics, horn, drum & treated vocals to bring a supercluster of black clouds into your zone. While there is an undeniable black tone of metallic grime hanging over the proceedings, this music will appeal to those wanting something absolute in their lives. Sort of like Swans or Godflesh, but realize that will not prepare for the all out bombast this duo spreads on your toast |
| T Rex | Electric Warrior | Reprise | LP Record | Some wear to sleeve and minor surface scratches to vinyl. Plays without pops or skips |
| Taco Leg | s/t | Fan Death Records | 7" Record | Austrailian messy punk. Simple and retarded. Split-Pea baby-spew is pretty much the color of the vinyl. Seems about right. |
| Talk Normal | Secret Cog | Just For The Hell Of It | LP Record | On this five-song E.P., Brooklyn-based duo Talk Normal – drummer Andrya Ambro and guitarist Sarah Register – create a nice racket that does a deft job of splitting the difference between harsh sonics and the essential song-oriented structures required of noise rock. Neither a band in which noise is merely a bi-product of a savage attack nor an overtly experimental outfit steeped in this or that high concept, Talk Normal come off as an organic self-contained unit that extracts as much as they can from their explicitly minimal approach. Sure, there are some obvious touchstones here – Sonic Youth, Magik Markers, Ut, Teenage Jesus – but the songs never feel derivative.--dusted |
| Talk Normal | Sugarland | Rare Book Room | LP Record | Since their lightning-strike first appearance, Talk NormalÕs sound has stormed upward & outward, referencing nothing but relating to almost everything, a jarringly songful gale of rhythm & noise supporting pleas & plaints, signal-calls & marching orders. Each Talk Normal show builds on past ones: up-to-the- moment updates of ideas previously stated, new phrasings of old upheavals delivered with increasing focus & joy. Darkness & light; fury, silence, space & sound. |

| The Modern Lovers | The Modern Lovers | 4 Men With Beards | LP Record | Originally released on the Beserkley label in 1976, this is a universally accepted proto-punk classic. It's an album that bridges the gap between the Velvet Underground & the first wave of punk rock. While also displaying the goofy wit that would later be JONATHAN RICHMAN's signature, this is equal parts geeky, emotional, angst driven, life affirming, &, from start to finish, absolutely brilliant |
| The Notwist | Sturm | Red Can Company | LP Record | Soundtrack to motion-picture by Hans-Christian Schmid. The group composed a soundtrack that creates a hypnotic, unreal ambiance w/ bowed xylophone, alienated glockenspiel, orchestra accordion & minimal electronics |

| Tor Lundvall | Sleeping and Hiding | Dais | LP Record | You may have heard his music described as “Ghost Ambient” in the past, but I prefer to call this night-time ambient. Sleepy and dreamy, longing tracks that slowly pull you into the picture itself, though usually distorted into your imagination as your own version of the story shown. Sleeping and Hiding expresses a desolate atmosphere through warmth. There is so much pull in this record, unlike many of his earlier works which seemed confined in its own world, pushing away the listener. There was always a surge of grief in those tracks for me. These though, embrace the listener with a warm greeting and understanding of the desolate yet calm and relaxed moments of life. Some tracks have a very slight jazz and lounge appeal, while others have a notable minimal neofolk and perhaps tribal or ritual percussive backdrop. --Heathen Harvest |
| Torche | In Return | Robotic Empire | 10" Record | Green/Red semi-opaque vinyl. Gatefold sleeve with additional CD. In lovely like-new condition. |

| Twin Stumps | s/t | Dais | LP Record | You like noise-rock and want something new to hear? Well here you go then, Twin Stumps has you covered. This is probably the most damaged and ugliest record I’ll hear all year and it only took until October. The band, who resides in or around Brooklyn, has just recently unleashed their debut LP on Dais Records and if you’re a fan of this sort of thing then you can’t possibly miss out on this record. I beg you not to in fact. It’s simply that good. Obviously it’s not for everyone, but if Brainbombs and Rusted Shut get your juices flowing then…well…this might just be up your alley. I am thinking it will be. It’s angry, hateful, and sickeningly loud just the way I like it.--Built on a Weak Spot |
| Tyrannosaurus Rex | Beard Of Stars [LP VINYL] | BLUE THUMB RECORDS | LP Record | Blue Thumb Records. Vinyl is shiny with a few minimal surface marks that don't affect play. Gatefold sleeve has decent amount of ringwear and rubbing, some soft cornering, but solidly intact. Overall a nice copy. |
| Under Pressure | Black Bile | Fashionable Idiots | LP Record | Winnipeg based punk vets return with their first release as a five-piece. Excellent song writing and the work of a second guitar see Under Pressure build upon the sound they have established themselves with mixing equal parts Motorhead, Poison Idea, and a touch of the Wipers to bring all things to the next level. This may be the bands best outing yet, heavy riffing punk, not for the weak |

| Xeno & Oaklander | Sentinelle | Wierd | LP Record | The long-awaited full-length debut album from Xeno & Oaklander is now available! Functioning as the absolute core of the electronic wing of the Wierd world since their beginnings in 2004, Miss Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride here present a carefully composed, restrained and complex form of moody electronic pop music that is simultaneously romantically melancholic and affirmatively aggressive. Recorded entirely live in the studio with exclusively analogue instruments, Sentinelle situates itself as a series of highly crafted cinematic vignettes which takes as its vantage point a fictitious era in a long-passed distant age: a time of wandering desert travelers, forgotten underwater cities, and exquisitely sculptural objects; of arid land, sea-farers and ferrymen, blinding light and lonely rooms, precious metals and poisonous corrosion. Themes of paranoia and disaffection associated with the transformation felt during the industrial revolution(a stand-in for our contemporary digital malaise), as well as odes to the many gifts of its legacy - motion pictures, cameras, synthesizers, and voltage control, are traversed throughout the epic journey of this minimal electronic masterpiece, allowing the listener to gaze out of the frozen cold window onto the many radical paradigm shifts of the twentieth century, and is a true sonic portrait of this eminently fragile era in transition |
